ABOUT ME...
I'm a Rangeland Ecologist and a Biology PhD candidate at Kansas State University.

Currently, I'm a PhD candidate working at the amazing Konza Prairie Long-Term Ecological Research site outside of Manhattan, KS. My research focuses on the drivers and mechanisms of woody plant encroachment in mesic grasslands, like the tallgrass prairie.

Prior to coming to Kansas in 2014, I recieved a MSc from BYU where I studied the interactions of fire, small mammals and precipitation on the establishment of invasive plant species in the Great Basin and Mojave deserts. Prior to graduate school I worked as a range technician for the USDA-Agricultural Research Service (ARS) in Burns, OR at the EOARC (Eastern Oregon Agricultural Research Center). While working for the ARS I found that I really enjoyed doing research, which is the reason why I left a good full time job to pursue advanced degrees.

When I'm not doing research or science outreach I am often found enjoying time with my wife and 3 rambunctious daughters outside exploring Kansas. I also enjoy gardening, making my own sodas and being a Scout Master for Troop 78 in the BSA Coronado Council.
